Paula’s Story

Sitting on her couch with her 4-week-old baby girl, Paula Benne, received a phone call that would alter the course of her life. As if becoming a new mother hadn’t already altered her life, Benne was contacted to embark on a new venture. Similar to motherhood, this venture wouldn’t always be smooth sailing or blue skies.
Benne was asked to purchase C&S Business Services in Jefferson City, Mo. After spending 10 years at Scholastic, transitioning to a multi-faceted staffing service was both challenging and rewarding, Benne said.
Without being fully informed on her new industry, Benne relied on the wisdom of others and her favorite word, delegation.
As the fourth woman to own C&S Business Services, Benne has helped transform the company to keep up with current economic and technological times. The company, which once completed payroll sheets by hand, now processes between 200 and 300 payroll sheets per week on the computer. In addition, C&S Business Services provides temporary, temporary-to-permanent and direct hire staffing solutions for business in the area.
With 23 years under her belt, Benne appreciates all that she has accomplished however; she wouldn’t go back to the beginning unless she could take all of her knowledge with her.
The first five years, she said, were the hardest. Balancing motherhood with the business world was difficult, however, with her two sisters and her daughter now working for her, it has turned into a family affair.
